I looked up from the game I was playing to witness the ritual of entering the freeway. While Lil Jon and the Eastside Boys sang “skeet skeet skeet” my Lyft driver crossed themselves three times while getting in the freeway.
Faith and religion intersect with so many parts of our lives but we should also be reminded that people experience trauma from their religious experiences. So much so that research was conducted by the Religious Trauma Institute.
It was a reminder that our faith is what we make it every day. Our patterns and rituals are ours. Sometimes we need something to believe in and a way to express that belief. There’s no better way to practice faith entering the freeway, crossing yourself while Lil Jon screams “To the window, to the wall…”
